Our Mission- to Exalt the God of the Bible
eBibleNotes.com is the product of more than 50 years of work in my ministry of teaching the Scriptures, and would not have been possible without the faithful labors of my wife Charlotte. She has helped me and blessed my ministry over these many years in more ways than I can count.
Our goal and prayer now is the same as it was when I first preached and taught these lessons— to explain God’s Word in a clear and straightforward manner so that anyone with the desire to learn could know and understand the riches of the Bible.
Our History- a Testimony to God’s Goodness and Glory
In the beginning of our life together, neither of us could have imagined what blessings and responsibilities lay ahead. Though as we look back, we can clearly see the kindness of God as He providentially guided our circumstances and our decisions.
When Charlotte and I were first married, I was a produce manager at a Publix grocery store, and Charlotte was an RN working in the local hospital. In those early days, our ambitions were focused on the things that we thought were important for a happy life. I was busy pursuing the goal of financial security, and Charlotte’s hope was to raise a large family like the one she grew up in. However, the Lord had a different plan that began with Him opening my eyes to the truth of the gospel of His Son.
From the moment that I came to faith in Christ, God gave me a hunger to know Him through the reading and study of His Word. Love of the truth became a driving passion that changed the desires of my heart. I happily gave up the goal of “making a million dollars”, and enrolled in Bible college. As a new Christian, all I really wanted was to know and understand the Bible. But as a young husband, I also knew that I had a responsibility to provide for my family, so while I attended Bible college I also pursued my degree in accounting.
As God was doing His work in my life, He also began working on the heart of my wife. Charlotte had been raised to know the basic truths about Christ, and she even believed herself to be a Christian. But as we spent time reading the Scriptures together, she came to realize that though she knew the truth, she had never actually placed her faith in Jesus Christ as her Savior. By His wonderful grace, the Lord saved her and gave her an abiding love for God and desire to serve Him.
Before I graduated with my Bible and Accounting degrees, I had two part-time accounting jobs and was called to pastor a small church in Miami. By this time we had two young daughters, and we entered pastoral ministry about as “green” as any couple could be! Yet, as we moved forward in faith, God directed our paths. I had a conviction that Christians should learn the whole Bible, and began teaching my way through the individual books of the Bible.
My preaching style was exegetical, and I was blessed with the opportunity to preach 3 services a week. What I lacked as a young bi-vocational pastor was time and typing skills! Here, God ministered to me through the love and giftedness of my wife. Charlotte was busy herself with the bulk of the responsibility for caring for our daughters and keeping our home. Even so, she happily took on the job of secretary, typing for all of our church services. When we lost our pianist, my wife also taught herself how to play the organ and became our organist. She also typed the bulletins and managed the social events for the church; including weddings, funerals, baby showers, and holidays. Over the years, that church became family, and Charlotte’s unwavering support throughout it all enabled me to spend a great deal of time studying the Word.
After a few years in church ministry, the Lord introduced us to global missions. It began with the Miami Rescue Mission where I had opportunities to preach, and where I would eventually serve on the board for more than 40 years. However, our love for missions really took root when we traveled to Haiti so I could preach in churches around the country with a missionary interpreting in Creole.
That trip opened up new avenues of ministry for both of us. First, I began traveling to Haiti and the Dominican Republic annually during tax season to do the taxes for the missionaries in-country, and was able to use it as a ministry opportunity for my congregation as well. I would always take members of the congregation with me to give them first-hand knowledge of missions work.
Second, Charlotte and I were deeply moved by the hospitality we received from the families we stayed with as we traveled around Haiti. The experience of Christian hospitality led us to host many missionary families in our home over the years as they traveled to or from their fields of service. Our church and parsonage was just five minutes from Miami International Airport, where missionary families were often stranded due to changes in flight schedules. We gave them a place to sleep, food, fellowship, and transportation. Sometimes it also involved Charlotte taking them to their embassy to make necessary arrangements.
God gave us the privilege of becoming an oasis of rest for these missionary families. Some folks actually planned to stay with us a few days with us just for that. It was also an incredible blessing for us as well, because it allowed us to hear first-hand testimonies of how God was working all over the world! The Lord was showing us, our children, and our congregation that the work of spreading the gospel is supported in many ways, and that we all can become personally involved in that glorious work.
After twenty-four years together, we had to leave our church family and move to Florida’s west coast. We had decided that it was time to transfer the church facility to the latin congregation who had been sharing it with us. During that time, my secular employment had also changed from being a public warehouse manager to being CFO of a semi-private golf course, eventually also becoming the personal financial manager of my employer’s corporations. In this next phase of life, Charlotte and I decided that I would not seek another pastorate, but rather would teach regularly in a Sunday School class in the local church.
The following year, in 2000, some friends asked me to begin teaching a Bible class in the community, and that class has continued to meet to this very day. For quite a while, we weren’t sure if it was right to devote my ministry efforts to a community Bible study. But then, through changes that we never anticipated, we were moved into new and different ways to spread the Word in the world. These changes were set in motion many years back while I was still pastoring the church, and led to the founding of Moretti Ministries (details can be read on the Moretti Ministries Inc website) which supports the spread of the gospel of our Lord Jesus Christ in such a variety of ways that even widows with limited funds have been able to participate.
Looking back over our years together, we are able to see where the Lord was working behind the scenes, and we are humbled that He took two young people from unbelief to worldwide ministry.
Today our “life verse” in Scripture is 2 Timothy 2:2 “The things which you have heard from me in the presence of many witnesses, entrust these to faithful people who will be able to teach others also.”
Charlotte and I start the day with the Word, then together, with me dictating and Charlotte typing emails, we communicate with the believers whom God has given us to carry on His ministry into His kingdom! We pray that the teaching and study resources here on eBibleNotes.com are a blessing to you in your own efforts to study and know (and perhaps teach!) God’s Word.
